Montgomery Optometrists fly the KODAK Lens flag for Scotland!

October 2007

East Lothian-based Montgomery Optometrists are celebrating their new status as Scotland's largest group of KODAK Lens Vision Centres. The flagship practice in Prestonpans joined forces with Kodak Lens in 2004 and after 3 successful years, the other practices in Tranent, Haddington and Musselburgh have now followed suit. As Kodak Lens Vision Centres, the opticians remain independent practices but have the backing of world renowned Kodak Lens, enabling them to offer a huge range of technologically advanced lens solutions.

To celebrate the launch of the new Kodak Lens Vision Centres, Montgomery Optometrists are hosting a launch day on Saturday 10th November. To mark the beginning of this long term partnership, Montgomery Optometrists have pledged to sponsor a guide dog puppy and will be hosting a very special 'name the puppy' competition throughout the morning. Visitors to any of the practices will be asked to give the guide dog puppy a name, and may have an opportunity to see a young guide dog which will be visiting the practices that morning. Every suggestion will cost 50p and all the money raised will go towards the puppy's sponsorship ... a huge £5,000 has to be raised over 3 years. The chosen name will win the nominee a Kodak digital camera; there will also be free helium balloons for children and great launch offers on spectacles and contact lenses for all visitors.

Special offers include 2 frames for 1, free contact lens trials, designer frames from only £50, and discounts for children, students and over 60's.

Brian and Karen Montgomery and Margaret Goldberg, owners of the Montgomery practices, are delighted to have the largest group of Kodak Lens Vision Centres in Scotland. Brian Montgomery comments: "We are excited about flying the flag for Kodak Lens and look forward to working together to raise the much needed funds to sponsor our guide dog to-be. Sight loss causes a huge loss of mobility and makes everyday activities much more difficult. Having a guide dog can restore independence so we are very pleased to be sponsoring a guide dog puppy. Thanks are already due to Kodak Lens who have contributed £1,000 towards our £5,000 target."

Mark Ireland from Kodak Lens is pleased to be working with Montgomery Optometrists: "Our partnership to date has been hugely successful and I know that working with all four practices will be great for the communities of Musselburgh, Prestonpans, Tranent and Haddington."

The funds raised will go towards the intensive training needed for the puppy to become a working guide dog. Guide Dogs' volunteer puppy walkers introduce the young pups to the sights, sounds and smells of a world in which they will play such an important part. After just over a year the young dogs start their formal training, where they learn the skills needed to guide a blind or partially sighted person. The training is rigorous — it has to be — and not all the young dogs make the grade. For the majority that do, the introduction to their new owner marks the start of a partnership that will last around six years. It costs £10 a day to breed, train and support each guide dog, and a guide dog owner could have 6 or 7 dogs during their lifetime.

To be involved in Montgomery's 'name the puppy' competition and the launch of Montgomery's Kodak Lens Vision Centres, visit one of your local practices in Musselburgh, Tranent, Prestonpans or Haddington between 9am and 1pm on Saturday 10th November! Suggestions for names can also be sent to Montgomery Optometrists, 6 Sidegate, Haddington EH41 4BT.
